It all began with an idea, an old 70s surfboard and two shapers, Tyler Hatzikian and John Lessing.
Tyler’s influences have always come from the past and the creation of the Survivors Series is no different. The drive behind the series comes from a place of respect and admiration for the shapers who have influenced Tyler throughout his career.
What sets Tyler Surfboards apart is his attention to detail and obsession to get it right. That’s why Tyler chose Lessing for this particular job. The pair have over 70 years combined shaping experience.
Lessing is the first shaper to be featured in the Survivors Series. Many remember his original 70s guns and pin tails with nostalgic reflection and misty eyes.
When Tyler took his favorite busted up 70s board to Lessing, the shaper immediately set to work and the series was born.

Lessing has been shaping for over 50 years, and began when he was 20 years old. He has shaped for Greg Noll, Bob Milner of Roberts Surfboards, Bing; Alongside. Dick Brewer, George Lanning, Dan Bendickson, Way Land, Bill Shrousble, Larry Felker, Benjie, The Lennahan Brothers from Seal Beach and of course, Bing himself. He also shaped for Rick Surfboards, jeff Biggs, Reef, True Line Longboards, Competition Surf and Sport, Surf Concepts and Kanoa Surf.
Three boards are available in this series: A double wing pin, a swallow tail and a true pin tail, sizes available from 6 ft. to 8 ft.
