City Council Elections

The deadline to file papers to run for the Manhattan Beach City Council in the March 8 general election is Friday, Dec. 10.  So far, Manhattan Beach Unified School District Board Member Amy Howorth and Kathleen Paralusz are the only candidates who have taken out papers to run for the two open positions, according to the city clerk’s office. Paralusz filed papers with the city clerk on Tuesday.

Councilmember Mitch Ward will be termed out in March, leaving two open seats.

Incumbent, Portia Cohen has not yet indicated if she intends to run for a second term. If she chooses not to run, the deadline to file election papers will be pushed back to Dec. 15.

Trunk Show Fundraiser and Volunteers for the Aquarium

On Thursday, Dec. 6th, Look! Optometry, 451 Manhattan Beach Blvd, Suite D-120, hosts a fundraiser and trunk show boutique benefiting the Roundhouse Aquarium at the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier. Twenty percent of all sales between 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. will be donated to the aquarium to help stem its financial shortfall.

Trunk show items will include sunglasses by Oliver Peoples, Prada and Ray Ban; jewelry and scarves by Phil and Rosemary Churnside; Roundhouse photos by Patrick Donahue; and pastries made by Robin Schwartz. A silent auction items and a raffle will be included.  

Purchases can be made by check a $10 donation at the door will include two wine or soda tickets.

The Roundhouse Aquarium is recruiting volunteers for its Winter Carnival on Saturday, Dec. 18 and Sunday, Dec. 19 at the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier. Volunteers are needed to sell tickets, paint faces, apply temporary tattoos, help with crafts and supervise games.
