Manhattan Beach About Town

Hermosa Middle School student Taylor Southey and Mira Costa High student Paloma Burgos were among a dozen students who participated in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy, sponsored by the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce. Last week, each of the students pitched their business plans to a panel of local business people who contributed $6,000 toward funding development the students’ products. Southey’s product was a magnetic ring that helps wearers hold on to their cell phones. Burgos product was soap scented with lilac that she grows at home and packages with designs that appeal to tourists. The business panel judged Burgo’s project to be the most promising and will send her to the National YEA competition in New York later this year. Photo
