2022 Major League Baseball Draft: Latest Updates and Top MLB Draft Prospects

The 2022 MLB Draft is right around the corner, and as you’d expect, there’s a lot of fuss about scouting and draft prospects. The latest MLB odds favour Druw Jones as the number 1 overall draft pick, but it remains to be seen if it will stay this way.

With less than two months to go, we’ve decided to publish a list of our own, ranking the top prospects for the 2022 MLB draft. It is important however to note that this is more of an assessment of how the draft may shape up to be. July is still some time from now; a lot can and will most likely change in the days or weeks to come.

Without further ado, let’s examine our top prospects:

Druw Jones

Position: Outfielder (OF)

School: Wesleyan HS, Norcross, GA

Age: 18

Height: 6′ 4″

The Baltimore Orioles earned the number one overall draft pick on the final day of the season, after coming up short 4-12 against the Toronto Blue Jays. This will be their second No. 1 overall draft selection since they drafted Adley Rutschman in 2019. With the Orioles needing a lot of defensive help, all signs are pointing to Druw Jones to be the No. 1 overall draft pick.

The son of Andruw Jones, a 5× All-star and 10× Gold Gloves winner, Jones is already rated as the best defensive centre fielder in high school and might end up being the best defender in this class when it’s all said and done.

Brooks Lee

Position: Shortstop (SS)

School: Cal Poly, CA

Age: 21

Height: 6′ 1″

The Arizona Diamondbacks ended the regular season with a 52-110 record which earned them 2nd overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft. They need a 3B and Brooks Lee, who is likely to switch positions, could fill this shoe for a long time.

He is the son of a high school coach and this happens to reflect so well in his game. Lee plays like a veteran.

The 2021 Big West Player of the Year hit .342/384/.626 last year and is perhaps the best pure hitter in this draft class. His bat-to-ball skill is simply outstanding.

Lee can provide a lot of batting average, on-base percentage and slugging to the D-backs. He has continued to improve physically and defensively. With these qualities, he is almost likely to end up as a Top 3 pick and could even move higher up the ranks in the weeks to come.

Dylan Lesko

Position: Pitcher (RHP)

School: Buford High School, GA

Age: 18

Height: 6′ 2″

If our Orioles and D-back picks fall in line, then the Texas Rangers are likely to draft Dylan Lesko. He is, without a doubt, the most complete pitcher in this class. No one in this draft comes close when it comes to his changeup and fastball arsenals.

Lesko was the first junior recipient of the Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year award last year. He is athletic and has formidable ace potential. We don’t see him missing cracking below the top 5.

Termarr Johnson

Position: Shortstopper (SS)

Mays HS, Atlanta, GA

Age: 17

Height: 5′ 10″

Another player who is more likely to change positions when he enters the league. Johnson is quick, possesses a more than average plus solid arm, and would most likely end up becoming a second baseman.

He is one of the brightest high school prospects in this draft. His plate discipline and bat-to-bat skills have earned him comparisons to Wade Boggs and Vladimir Guerrero Sr., respectively.

Johnson is already arguably the best high school pure hitter we’ve seen for a while. He may end up being in this draft class.

Although still too early to call, we won’t be surprised to see Termarr Johnson as a Top 3 overall pick. If he doesn’t, he’ll most likely end up with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Elijah Green

Position: Outfielder (OF)

School: IMG Academy, Bradenton, FL

Age: 18

Height: 6′ 3″

Former NFL tight end Eric Green is a 2× Pro Bowler, and his son would be looking to make his mark in baseball.

He gained lots of scout recognition after a stellar display at the Area Code Underclass event last year. Although he has a swing-and-miss flaw in his game and has struggled a couple of times with elevated velocity, his athleticism is hard to ignore. It is second to absolutely nobody in this draft class.

Green has what it takes to become the most dominant player in this draft class.
