Baywatch Community Calendar 9-1-22

Spotlight: Free family movie nights at the Redondo Beach Pier kick off Friday, Sept. 9 with “Spider Man: No Way Home.” “Encanto” plays the following Friday, Sept. 16; followed by “American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story” on Friday, Sept. 23, and “Soul” on Friday Sept. 30. The movies will begin at dusk, around 7:30 p.m., and will be shown where the Redondo Beach Pier meets the International Boardwalk, below Kincaid’s restaurant. RB PVE art show

The Redondo Beach Art Group will have an art show, “Textures,” Sept. 1 through Oct. 10 at the Malaga Cove Library art gallery. Participating artists explore a variety of materials and media. There will be a reception from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9. The library is located at 2400 Vía Campesina, Palos Verdes Estates.

MB art exhibition

The Manhattan Beach Art Center’s annual community art exhibition is on display through Sunday, Oct. 2. The exhibition features diverse and innovative artworks ranging from photography and paintings to sound generating sculpture and woven fiber. More than 70 artists are featured. Summer concerts at The Point

The Point in El Segundo welcomes visitors to the Sounds of Summer, a family-friendly music series from 6 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday through Sept. 28. Culture art brewing

Presented by Culture Brewing Co. in Manhattan Beach, “Digital Discovery” is a free, solo art exhibition by Eric Sanders. The artist aims to integrate  energetic digital art into immersive art activations that engage the entire community, from art lovers to art novices. Fiesta Hermosa

Fiesta Hermosa returns Labor Day weekend, Saturday, Sept. 3 through Monday, Sept. 5. The Hermosa Beach Chamber-sponsored weekend features live music, more than 200 vendors, plenty of food and drink options, carnival rides, a petting zoo, a sidewalk sale and art walk. Shuttle service will run between the Northrop Grumman lot at 1 Space Park Drive, Redondo Beach and Fiesta Hermosa from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m each day of the festival. For details, go to fiestahermosa.net.

Hermosa Beach history museum

The Hermosa Beach History Museum will have extended hours during Fiesta Hermosa. The hours are noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The museum is located on the west side of the Hermosa Beach Community Center, 710 Pier Ave.

Riviera Village sidewalk sale

The Riviera Village Labor Day weekend sidewalk sale offers free tote bags while supplies last. Riviera Village is on South Catalina Avenue in Redondo Beach.

Summer concerts at Polliwog Park 

Manhattan Beach’s Concerts in the Park summer series, presented by Chevron, comes to a close with The Blue Breeze Band. The band plays Motown, blues, funk, R&B and jazz. The concert is 5 to 7 p.m. at the Polliwog Park amphitheater. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnics. Free. Polliwog is located at 1601 Manhattan Beach Blvd.

Portuguese Bend National Horse Show

The 64th Annual Portuguese Bend National Horse Show will be held Sept. 9 to 11 at Ernie Howlett Park, 25851 Hawthorne Blvd., Rolling Hills Estates. 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This highly regarded A-rated horse show has two fully scheduled rings offering a wide variety of classes, including the prestigious PCHA Horsemanship Medal Finals. There will also be food booths, boutiques and events for children, including magic shows, pony rides and face painting. Proceeds benefit The Associates Chair in Endocrinology and The Associates Chair in Transplant Surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. General admission tickets are $5. South Coast Cactus & Succulent Society

The presenter for September is Steven Frieze, whose talk is titled, “Adventures in Namaqualand: The Beauty and Exotic Quality of South African Succulents.” Steven will speak about a variety of succulents he saw growing while traveling north from Cape Town to Springbok in an area of South Africa known as Namaqualand. Manhattan Beach 10K

The 45th annual Manhattan Beach 10K is set for Oct. 1 with a start time of 7:30 a.m. Experience one of the most scenic 10K courses in the South Bay and enjoy live music and a post-race expo at the finish line. Over 3,500 runners will take to the streets for this moderate to slightly difficult course through downtown and residential Manhattan Beach, finishing at the Manhattan Beach Pier. This year’s race is designated the RRCA California State 10K Championship. For those would like to “Run Your Own Race” there is a virtual option. Registration costs range from $25-$40.
