Beach Soccer

The Copa Cabana Classic Beach Soccer tournament sponsored by Time Warner Cable and FOX Soccer will come to the sands of Hermosa Beach Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 6-7. Sanctioned by the US Beach Soccer Federation, the 5-on-5 tournament is open to all youth, adult and coed teams. Entry fees are $290 per team. Free physical therapy including stretching, taping, sprain treatment and pain relief for athletes and spectators will be offered by Dr. Louis Woelfel of The Foundation for Wellness Professionals. Basketball

The HAX / ARC Youth Basketball League is holding registration for Recreation and Travel Team divisions. Open to boys and girls grades 1-8, the league begins Sept. 17-19. Aquatics

Four members of the newly formed Beach Cities Swimming (BCS) team competed in the 2011 Pacific Committee Long Course Championships hosted by Swim Torrance at the John C. Argue Swim Stadium in Central Los Angeles.. The younger end of the team was represented by Christian Kim (6), Zachary Paulson (10), Austin Andrew (12), and Jack Kittay (11). Redondo Union High School senior Declan Andrew (16) placed second in the 800-meter freestyle with at time of 9 minutes, 46.42 seconds which qualified him for the Junior Olympics. Tryouts take place at the Redondo Union High School pool on alternate Mondays with the next one held on Monday, Aug. 15 following a two-week closure of the pool for maintenance. Swim lessons, lap swim, and all other programming will also resume when the pool reopens. Community members are encouraged to join family swims on Saturday and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. and for lap swims Monday-Thursday 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Friday 11 a.m.-2 .pm. Volleyball

The 2nd Annual Lady Seahawks Volleyball Tournament will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Redondo Union High School gym. All varsity players, family, alumni and coaches are welcome. Teams consist of 5-7 players with men hitting from the back row only. Player fee of $10 includes t-shirt and drinks. Deadline to register is July 26. California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) is hosting youth tournament for boys and girls in the 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U divisions. The Dockweiler Youth Tournament will be held Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. at Dockweiler Beach. The Marine Street Youth Tournament will be held Wednesdays Aug. 3 and 10 beginning at 9 a.m. at Marine Street in Manhattan Beach. Volleyball Ventures hosts co-ed doubles tournaments Saturday, Aug. 6 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Manhattan Beach Pier. The event includes four levels of play (beginner to advanced) and is played in a round-robin format. Players can sign up individually, rotating players from their pool for each match. Players must be 18 years or older and VBV members. Fees are $25 per tournament (pre-registered), $40 for beach registration. Registration and volunteer positions are now open for the United States Youth Volleyball League (USYVL) Fall Season. The 8-week league in Hermosa Beach at South Park will run from September until November. The USYVL is also looking for volunteer coaches, site directors, and clinicians (volleyball instructors). Boys and girls ages 8 to 18 years old are invited to take part in Beach Cities Volleyball’s Summer Indoor Volleyball Program. The program will be held in July and August allowing players of all skill sets, beginner to advanced, to have fun and improve their volleyball skills. Each week-long camp features a 5-star coach-to-player ratio and lunch or dinner for full-day participants. Full-day and half-day programs are available. Fitness

AdventurePlex, 1701 Marine Ave., Manhattan Beach is offering its Open Rock Wall and Ropes Course on Saturdays from 12-3 p.m. (Rock Wall is also open Sundays from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). Whether a single child, the whole family, or just a group of friends (Ages 5 and up for rock wall, 8 and up for ropes course), the course provides challenges of solving problems and overcoming obstacles. Groups of seven will start every hour and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete the courses. Advance registration is recommended. Cost is $8-$20 depending on activities.
