Manhattan Beach Fire Department’s engineer/paramedic Brian Yount discusses fire safety with Robinson Elementary second graders as part of National Fire Prevention Week earlier this month. Every year, the department visits second graders in the city’s six elementary schools and challenges them in a contest to create a “home escape plan” in the event of a fire. The winner at each school wins a ride to school in a fire engine.
