A week of awesome South Bay sunsets

The week of December 7th through 11th was one of those with one awesome sunset after the next, a December phenomenon all about the position of the earth to the sun, as we approach the Winter Solstice on 12/21. Such clouds and colors!

I spent Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in Manhattan Beach, either because I’m lazy and live here, or that we simply have the best sunsets anywhere in Southern California. (Where you would stand to see them in Rodeo Drive? At the Hollywood Walk of Fame? Get the idea?)

I also love taking walks at the end of the day, which is way preferable to getting in the car for a drive, so since I live in Manhattan Beach, the 1-mile walk to the sea tends to be the way I go. And as you’ve heard me say, a sunset with a Pier in it is way more interesting than just a body of water. And Manhattan has the most photogenic pier in the South Bay.

So it was all Manhattan this week, except for Wednesday, when I did make the drive up to Palos Verdes, for what’s hands down the best overview of Los Angeles, from the sea, anywhere in the basin.

Let’s re-live those sunsets together! I’d love to know your pick for best of the week!

Check your timetables for the sunset tonight, and remember that the best action tends to happen about 10 minutes after the sun sets.

I shot each one of these photos with the Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max, and dodged and burned with Adobe Lightroom and Nik Color EFX software.

For tips on how to get the best sunset shots, I have a video for you, right here.
