Beach Cities Sports: Triathlon, volleyball and more

Running: ย The 31st Annual Jet to Jetty 5K/10K Run/Walk benefiting Airport Marina Counseling Service (AMCS) will be held at Dockweiler State Beach beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. Entry fee for the 5K and 10K is $35 and includes parking at Dockweiler. The Kidโ€™s Fun Run fee is $15. Early registration and packet pickup available at ย Dickโ€™s Sporting Goods, 770 South Sepulveda Blvd. in El Segundo, on Friday, Aug. 28 from 4 – 8 p.m. Participants receive a free event T-Shirt and after-race refreshments. Beach Volleyball: ย The California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) hosts the Cal Cup Youth Championships in Manhattan Beach on Saturday, Aug. 29. The same day in Hermosa Beach, the Campsurf Menโ€™s A, AAA and Campvolley Womenโ€™s A tournaments ($45/team) will be held. For more information, visit cbva.com.

On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 5-6, the CBVA Adult Cal Cup championships will be held. Saturdayโ€™s action is highlighted by Menโ€™s and Womenโ€™s Open tournaments at Manhattan Beach with purses of $1,500. At Hermosa Beach, Menโ€™s and Womenโ€™s Unrated, A and AA events will take place. On Sunday, Menโ€™s B (Hermosa Beach) and Womenโ€™s B (Manhattan Beach) tournaments will be held. The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) will hold the final event of the season when it hosts the California Co-ed Open on Sunday, Aug. 30 at Dockweiler Beach. Competition features 12U/14U/16U and18U divisions. For more information, visit aaubeach.org.

 

Smack Sportswear will be hosting the Patriotโ€™s Day co-ed 4โ€™s beach volleyball tournament on Saturday, Sept. 12 on the south side of the Hermosa Beach Pier. Festivities also include an apple pie eating contest, three-legged races and more. A portion of the proceeds benefit Tuesdayโ€™s Children, an organization dedicated to providing support for children and family impacted by 9/11. Triathlon: Registration is open for the Day at the Beach Triathlon to be held at 7 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18 in Hermosa Beach. The event includes a 1/4 mile ocean swim, 10 mile bike and 3 mile run.
