Free comics for food

The Comic Bug, 1807 Manhattan Beach Blvd. is offering a free comic book to each person who donates an item to its food drive between now and Jan. 5. Donors who bring in 10 food items will receive a free trade paperback or graphic novel.

Last week, The Comic Bug reached a quarter of its goal to collect 800 cans and boxes of food. All donations will go to the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank (www.lafoodbank.org), a 37-year-old non-profit organization that operates roughly 900 centers, including abused and abandoned children homes, battered women’s shelters, senior centers, local food pantries, soup kitchens and AIDS hospices. Last year, L.A. Foodbank distributed 54 million pounds of food for the hungry in the county.
