Wellness change

The Wellness Community-South Bay Cities (TWC-SBC) will officially announce the organization’s name change to Cancer Support Community-Redondo Beach in an open house celebration of its 24th Anniversary of serving cancer patients and their loved ones. The event takes place March 25, from 4 to 8 p.m. at 109 W. Torrance Blvd., Redondo Beach, and features food, live music, and a raffle. The name change is a reflection of the 2009 merger at the national level of The Wellness Community and Gilda’s Club to become the largest professionally-led network of cancer support worldwide. In 2010, TWC-SBC served nearly 1,400 people with over 10,000 visits. The new name will differentiate it from the many fitness centers and practitioners with “Wellness” in their names. TWC-SBC Executive Director Judith Opdahl emphasized the organization’s ongoing commitment to the community. “Our dedicated team will still continue to offer the very same services and programs at no cost to the participant – over 100 per month – only the name will change,” said Opdahl.
