As of last week, the foundation had raised about $2 million for next year. For this academic year, the foundation raised $4.6 million. By January, the foundation hopes to have reached their goal of matching last year’s funds and sustaining the programs and positions they funded this academic year. Those programs include librarians and science specialists at elementary schools, and college and career counselors at the middle and high schools.

Veterans Day ceremony

Manhattan Beach is holding a Veterans Day ceremony on Friday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Parkway Monument. Congresswoman Janice Hahn will speak.

Foundation of Local Arts fundraiser

Themed “Architecture, Art, Design – Modern Design Trends in the South Bay,” the Foundation of Local Arts will be holding its third annual fundraiser on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 1300 Highland Shops and Worklofts. Architect Grant Kirkpatrick, of KAA Design and who designed the complex, will speak. 6:30 to 9 p.m. Free. For more information, visit www.FoundationofLocalArts.com.
