Mansionization community meeting
An informal meeting to discuss issues related to residential mansionization is scheduled for Nov. 9 at 3 to 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, Council Chambers, 1400 Highland Avenue. Topics to be discussed include open space, building height, stories, basements, buildable floor area and minor exceptions. The input received will be presented at the city council’s joint meeting with the planning commission, which has not yet been scheduled. For more info, visit citymb.info.
Refugio oil spill meeting
A special informational hearing of the state Senate’s Select Committe on the Refugio Oil Spill will take place on Nov. 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Manhattan Beach library. The committee will discuss the impacts of the spill on the South Bay and learn about emergency response efforts to clean up the tar balls that washed ashore. Lighting up the pier
The 26th annual holiday pier lighting and downtown open house will take place on Nov. 18. Children can have photos taken with Santa at the back of the Metlox Plaza starting at 5 p.m. At 7 p.m., Mayor Mark Burton will flip the switch to light the pier.
