Yums at the beach

The second annual Bite at the Beach is happening on May 16 at the MBS Media Campus in Manhattan Beach. Food from local restaurants and breweries will be served, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the nonprofits LA Galaxy Foundation and StubHub Center Foundation. A few of the participating restaurants include Manhattan Beach Creamery, Doma and Petros. Abigaile in Hermosa Beach, Mission Brewery in San Diego and King Harbor Brewing Company in Redondo Beach are among the featured breweries. Tour de Pier

The annual cancer charity fundraiser has become so popular in its third year that as of press time, it had already raised most of its goal of $750,000 well ahead of its May 17 event date and only VIP bikes were available.

For the uninitiated, participants gather donations and sign up to ride spin cycles at the Manhattan Beach Pier.

The event was conceived of by Jon Hirshberg, who lost his father Ron to cancer in 1997 and started the LA Cancer Challenge, with his friend Heath Gregory.

This year’s beneficiaries include the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, started in memory of Ron Hirshberg; the Cancer Support Community – Redondo Beach and the Uncle Kory Foundation. Visit tourdepier.com for more info and to register. ER
