Richstone walkathon

Hawthorne-based Richstone Family Center, which aims to prevent child abuse and violence in families, schools and communities, is holding its 26th annual pier-to-pier walkathon Saturday at the Manhattan Beach pier. The city’s public works department is holding a second public meeting on Monday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Police/Fire Department Conference Room (400 15th Street) to discuss planned improvements to existing stairs leading from the Strand to the Marvin Braude Bike Path and installation

of two wheel chair ramps. For more information, contact project manager Edward Kao at 310-802-5358.

Meeting on labor & pension reform

A community discussion on labor costs and the recently implemented pension reform will take place next Thursday, May 2, at 6:30 p.m. at the City Council Chambers. The city’s labor attorney, Peter Brown, will present and answer questions about pension reform and the elimination of the employer-paid member’s contribution for current employees, employee compensation, health care reform and its impacts to our labor force, and more.
