MBPD’s Tim Hageman named captain

Lt. Tim Hageman of the Manhattan Beach Police Department has been promoted to the rank of captain, city officials announced Tuesday.
“I am confident in Cpt. Hageman’s law enforcement proficiency and his ability to successfully provide leadership to the Manhattan Beach Police Department and the community we serve,” Chief Eve Irvine said in a statement.
In his new role, Hageman will be responsible for overseeing the Field Operations Bureau, which includes patrol, traffic, jail operations, SWAT, parking and animal control.
Since 1991, Hageman has served MBPD in a variety of roles, including field training officer, police detective and department training manager. He is also a recent graduate of Leadership Manhattan Beach.
Prior to his service in Manhattan Beach, he served four years in the United States Air Force and became a Los Angeles Deputy Marshall.

The City of Manhattan Beach and IMG will jointly honor the winners of last year’s Manhattan Beach Open next Thursday at the Volleyball Walk of Fame Red Carpet Ceremony at the Manhattan Beach pier. The honorees, which include men’s and women’s champions Jenny Kropp, Whitney Pavlik, Sean Scott and John Hyden, will each earn a bronze plaque on the pier. The ceremonial event precedes the 53rd annual Manhattan Beach Open, which takes place Friday to Sunday.
This week at ‘Concerts in the Park’: Susie Hansen Latin Band

Electric violinist Susie Hansen, with the backing of a nine-piece band, draws on various forms of jazz and Latin music, integrating her own interpretation of the traditional Cuban Charanga. The L.A. Times once described her music as “physically moving as it is intellectually stimulating.”
“Concerts in the Park” is an annual event organized by the Parks and Recreation Department. It runs every Sunday until September 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Polliwog Park. For more information, visit citymb.info.
