
Free parking for council meetings
In order to provide free parking for residents attending City Council meetings on Tuesday evenings, city officials will change the meter enforcement hours in the Civic Center Parking Lot from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. Hours for Saturday and Sunday remain unchanged. Installation of new signage is expected to be completed by next Friday.
Bone marrow typing drive for local woman
Nina Polvanich Louie, a Manhattan Beach wife and mother of a two-year-old son, was diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma last September and now has one month to find a bone marrow match. A bone marrow typing drive for Louie will be held at Children’s Orchard (2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd.) in Manhattan Beach Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit savenina.com.
Strategic Planning Community Meeting
The City Council and city staff are hosting a community discussion Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Police/Fire conference room to gather public input about the city’s three-year goals. The meeting will begin with refreshments and informal conversation, with discussion beginning promptly at 6:30 p.m.
“This is an opportunity for residents to be heard,” Mayor David Lesser said in a press release. “We will be there to listen carefully to explore how we can all work to shape the future together and address important issues facing residents and business owners in our great city.”
Library construction
The public parking lot west of the county library will be closed beginning Monday. Demolition of the library is set to begin July 22, with construction of the new two-story building starting Sep. 12. The grand opening of the new library is anticipated for April 2015.
This week at ‘Concerts in the Park’: Mira Costa Jazz Band

As part of the Grammy-award winning music program at Mira Costa High School, the budding musicians of the Mira Costa Jazz Band will take to trumpets, trombones, saxophones and rhythm instruments to perform traditional and contemporary big-band jazz tunes of various styles.
“Concerts in the Park” is an annual event organized by the Parks and Recreation Department. It runs every Sunday until September 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Polliwog Park. For more information, visit citymb.info.
