‘Better than ever’
The Fourth of July in Redondo Beach promises to be “better than ever this year,” according to a press release issued by the city.
Seating at the water’s edge inside Seaside Lagoon will be just 300 yards from the fireworks in King Harbor. Families can make a full day of the celebration by reserving a table adjacent to the warm, lifeguard-protected lagoon, and for kids there will be an inflatable obstacle course, arts and crafts, and the popular Freedom Kid’s Parade.
Entertainment will be provided by the South Bay Drum Circle, Moondog Wolf and Shari Puorto Band. Mayor Steve Aspel has called Redondo Beach “the place to be on July 4th.”

Local educator hosts STEM camp
Redondo Beach resident Raquel Dickert is this week leading Camp Invention, a weeklong summer day program aiming to bring science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects to life for students in the first through sixth grades.
She is directing the camp – the brainchild of Invent Now, Inc. in partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame and the United States Patent and Trademark Office – at Zela David Elementary School in Hawthorne.
Daily, Dickert leads her students through integrated modules that employ creative thinking to solve real-world challenges, introducing them to vital life skills like problem-solving and teamwork.
“Based on feedback from the country’s finest school districts, Camp Invention has earned a reputation as a leader in high-quality summer programming,” Michael Oister of Invent Now said of the camp model. “This has helped the organization grow to a national program serving over 77,000 children. Parents tell us Camp Invention improves their child’s outlook on learning and increases their child’s interest in using science to solve problems.”
Camp Invention will feature in three Redondo Beach schools this summer – at Alta Vista the week of July 29, at Madison Elementary the week of August 5, and at Beryl Heights Elementary the week of August 12.
