Fire Service Day

In honor of Fire Service Day, the Redondo Beach Fire Department is hosting an open house at its firehouse on 400 S. Broadway from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11. Following that, firefighters will be cooking and serving at a community spaghetti dinner at their clubhouse. Entry is $10 and the dinner starts at 4 p.m.

Work out for a cause

Spectrum Athletic Club on Harbor Drive is hosting a fundraiser to benefit people suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease all day Saturday, May 11. In honor of the second annual Gettin’ Down With Toni Brown event, 100 percent of proceeds raised from special group fitness classes – which cost a minimum of $25 – will go toward benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association ALS research initiative. Toni Brown is a fitness instructor who was diagnosed with ALS a year and a half ago.

Pacific Boychoir

Redondo Beach residents Daniel Plaster and David Larson are performing Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “All-Night Vigil” with the Grammy-winning Pacific Boychoir tomorrow, May 10, at the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles at 8 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online at PacificBoychoirAcademy.org.

CenterCal workshop

Waterfront developer CenterCal is holding a public meeting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center to invite suggestions from Redondo Beach residents.

TED Talks

TEDxRedondoBeach will be hosting a series of talks at the Redondo Union High School auditorium tomorrow, May 10, at 6 p.m. Topics covered include parenting, stress, listening, and transgender health. For tickets, visit tedxredondobeach.com.
