New survey for waterfront amenities

A survey to gather more input for the King Harbor Amenities Plan began April 1 to continue through April 17.

The questionnaire from SWA Group, a landscape architecture firm hired by the city, includes drawings of options discussed at a March 7 public meeting.

City council adoption of an overall amenities document is expected in June. The next public meeting for the waterfront has not yet been scheduled.

The King Harbor Amenities Plan looks to refurbish and/or renovate the International Boardwalk and north to Portofino Way.

The focus is on Seaside Lagoon, Moonstone Park, the Sportfishing Pier, hand/small boat launch, a public boat launch, and a separate dinghy dock. The latter two locations have not been determined.

The Los Angeles Astras, a new, professional women’s ultimate (Frisbee) league team hosts its only home game Saturday, April 9, at Redondo Union High School at 3:30 p.m. Their opponents are the Utah Wild. Tickets are $15.

The Western Ultimate League, with seven teams, was formed in 2020. Its inaugural season was delayed two years due to the pandemic.

Ultimate is similar to soccer but with a Frisbee and an element of football. Teams score by advancing the disc into their opponents’ end zone.
