Looking for a new pet? Get the facts first

Girl Scout troop 5285 is hosting a pet information fair Saturday Sept. 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the dog park at 190th  and Flagler inRedondo Beach. For those thinking about getting a pet, they will not want to miss this event. Information on a variety of pets, including horses, dogs, fish, turtles, birds, reptiles, bunnies, hamsters, and cats, will be available. Local experts from rescue organizations and pet stores will be on hand to answer questions and to hold adoptions. Brownies and Cub Scouts will be able to complete merit badges as they visit each animal booth. Also, there will be entertainment, games and refreshments, as well as live animals for participants to get to know. Organizers invite the those without pets to come and join them at the fair to see if they are ready to have a pet of their own.

Girl Scout Troop 5285 are freshmen atRedondo Union High School and Bishop Montgomery High School. The Pet Fair completes its Silver Award.

 

Sardine Mulch

The City of Redondo Beach and Athens Services will be offering free Organic Compost on Sat. Sept. 18., from 8 a.m-12 noon at Wilderness Park, 1102 camino Real. The organic compost titled “King Harbor Blend” is the result of 175 tons of sardines that were collected from King Harbor on March 8 following a massive fish die off. Approximately 45 tons of compost will be available on a first come, first served basis. People interested should bring a personal container to transport the material. Each individual will be limited to 30 gallons of compost.
