Earth Day marked at Wilderness Park

South Bay Parkland Conservancy held its annual Earth Day celebration at Wilderness Park April 22-23.

Saturday included a native plant workshop walk and restoration work followed by a dinner with Mayor Bill Brand and members of the Tongva tribe.

An estimated 100 people camped overnight in the park.

On Sunday, a free community gathering featured nature walks, booths, activities and crafts; first come, first-served lunch and live music with Zeal Levin and US99.

Pollinator garden at Quantimetrix

Quantimetrix Corporation of North Redondo Beach dedicated a pollinator garden April 21, at the site of the medical diagnostics company by Aviation Park. The garden was named after the late Robert W. Ban, founder of the company.

Ban’s son Monty, who took the reins at Quantimetrix after his father died in 2016, dedicated the garden.

The native plants provide pollen and nectar for insects and birds.

The work was co-created by Mike Garcia at Enviroscape L.A. (Manhattan Beach). The garden stretches around much of the Quantimetrix headquarters on Manhattan Beach Boulevard.
