Community e-bike meeting Thursday night
The Redondo Beach Police Department will hold a community e-bike meeting Thursday, March 7, at 6 p.m. at Anderson Park. The “Talk Shop With Cops” event is to discuss, and educate residents about e-bikes, and gather community feedback about safety strategies.
Since fall 2022, the RBPD has run an education and enforcement effort for e-bikes, including production of a safety video, signboards, community engagement, social media, citations and warnings.
Superior Court Judge Spear re-election projected
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Emily Spear, of Redondo Beach,is projected to win a second, six-year term with 356,199 votes, for 53.5%, compared to challenger Kimberly Repecka’s 46.5% (310,166 votes) in a count released election night. Spear is assigned to the Inglewood courthouse.
Repecka is a deputy public defender for L.A. County. Spear previously worked as a deputy district attorney in L.A. County for 11 years.
City Attorney Mike Webb marks 30 years at city hall
Redondo Beach City Attorney Mike Webb marked 30 years of service to the city last week, a milestone pointed out by newly appointed Mayor Jim Light Tuesday night at a city council meeting. Webb started as a city prosecutor in 1994.
He was elected city attorney in 2005, and is now serving his fifth term, which he has announced will be his last.
A former defensive back for the University of Santa Barbara football team, Webb went to law school at Cal-Berkeley.
50th Festival of the Kite Sunday
The 50th Annual Redondo Beach Festival of the Kite takes place Sunday, March 10, from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the Pier. The free community event features prizes for kite-flying, live music by 1969, and the Craig’s Hot Dog On A Stick Eating Contest. The event is presented by the Redondo Pier Association.
Kiwanis Club to hold Fitness Fun Day Saturday
The Redondo Beach Kiwanis Club will hold its 2024 Fitness Fun Day March 9 at Anderson Park from 10 a.m – noon. The family event begins with a musical warm-up followed by games, T-shirts, ribbons and snacks for the participants.
The event, supported by a grant from Beach Cities Health District, aims to promote fitness and healthy habits for children.
“Redondo Beach Kiwanis is proud to provide this fun event to promote health and fitness. It is great to put smiles on children’s faces and give back where we can,” said Jeff Emdee, community services chair.

Public safety open house Sunday at Civic Center
The Redondo Beach Police Department will put on a Public Safety Open House Sunday, March 10 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Redondo Beach Civic Center. Along with food trucks, fire trucks, shaved ice and kids events, police will demonstrate its K-9 unit, drones, S.W.A.T., motorcycles and a firearm simulator. ER
