Fatal crash at Catalina Ave./Palos Verdes Boulevard

A single-car fatal collision occurred Nov. 20 at the intersection of Palos Verdes Boulevard and South Catalina Avenue in Redondo Beach. 

The vehicle, with two occupants inside, hit a light/signal pole at approximately 11:17 p.m., killing the adult male driver. 

The car caught fire, which responding RBFD personnel extinguished. An adult female passenger escaped with minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. She and the driver were in a 2014 black Infiniti G Series going east on Palos Boulevard. No other cars were involved, according to Detective Bijan Pirsaheli. 

“Drugs and alcohol are believed to be a factor,” he said.

The Redondo Beach Police Department is investigating what led to the incident.

RUHS student-made Sea Hawk Marketplace Dec. 6

Redondo Union High School will hold its Sea Hawk Marketplace – in which students sell handmade items at a price of $10 or less – Friday, Dec. 6 from 3:30 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. in the RUHS quad.

All products are created by the students themselves – from crafts, artwork, food or experiences such as
“Paint Your Own Flowerpot” or games.

Exceptions for the $10 price limit are made on a case-by-case basis.

 

City Hall tree-lighting Dec. 3

The 44th annual Redondo Beach tree-lighting at City Hall will be held Dec. 3 at 4:30 p.m.

The event includes musical performances, coffee, hot chocolate, Christmas cookies and face-painting at 415 Diamond Street. 

 

Riviera Village Stroll is Dec. 5

Riviera Village Association will hold its annual “Holiday Stroll” Dec. 5 from 5-9 p.m., with Catalina Avenue from Avenue I to South Elena closed to cars. Events include a Santa Claus procession and pictures with Santa.
