Four sent to hospital after five-car crash on Catalina

A pregnant woman was among four people taken to a hospital after a five-vehicle crash on Catalina Avenue on Saturday, Aug. 17. The crash followed a high-speed chase during which a driver ran multiple stop signs and at least one traffic light.

The incident began with Redondo Beach Police responding to a domestic dispute at Blue Water Grill about 2:30 p.m. A suspect, a female in her 20s, got into a car and left the restaurant, going south on Catalina before colliding with a car crossing Avenue F eastbound.

The two vehicles subsequently crashed into three others and at least one parked car.

The suspect was taken into police custody following release from the hospital. She was arrested for domestic violence, reckless driving, suspicion of driving under the influence and causing injury.

BCHD floor-area ratio waits at Planning Commission

The Beach Cities Health District Campus’s controversial floor-area-ratio (FAR) was not addressed in a second Redondo Beach Planning Commission  meeting on Aug. 15 regarding the city’s General Plan Update.

Marc Weiner, the new Redondo Beach Community Development director, reported that city staff is “still compiling examples” of various local properties with differing FAR levels.

The Planning Commission’s General Plan Update hearing will continue Sept. 19. The panel is tasked with sending recommendations to the city council on a myriad of land use issues in the 543-page draft General Plan.
