Board president: School bond to go in November

Redondo Unified School District is moving toward a definite bond this fall, according to Board President Raymur Flinn.

“The issue is the number,” she told Easy Reader Tuesday.

The board has been gathering feedback on a proposed bond to cover three main areas, as decided from input received.

“Safety first, modernization and technology,” Flinn said.

As for the number, at the top end Flinn said it would be no higher than $300 million, to be collected over 30 years. She gave a top end collection rate of $39 per $100,000 in assessed property value.

What would be the low ends?

“I would just be guessing,” Flinn said.

The board will need to decide by July whether to put a bond on the November ballot.

More information on the district’s bond study may be found at rbusd.org.

Memorial Day ceremony at Veterans Park

The annual Redondo Beach Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. May 27 at Veterans Park, featuring speaker Coast Guard Captain Stacey Crecy, Redondo Beach resident and commanding officer of Sector Los Angeles/Long Beach, at U.S. Coast Guard base San Pedro, Terminal Island.

A special presentation will be made to the family of the late mayor Bill Brand. A barbecue follows the ceremony, put on by the Redondo Beach Elks Lodge, with no cost to veterans and first responders. A $5 donation is requested from other attendees. ER
