41st annual Springfest opens Thursday
Springfest Redondo Carnival & Community Festival returns April 25-28 in the parking lot of Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center.
Thursday’s opening is Discounted Family Night followed by Friday’s Teen Night.
The four-day event features carnival rides, Kids’ Zone, food court, music and entertainment and a beer and wine tent. Springfest has free admission, free parking and free entertainment.
Put on by the North Redondo Beach Business Association, festival times are 5 p.m. – 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Sunday.
132nd anniversary of city founding Saturday
The Redondo Beach Historical Society marks the city’s 132nd birthday Saturday, April 27, with a celebration on the grounds of Heritage Court at 302 Flagler Lane.
The historical Morrell House and the Queen Anne Cottage, home to the city’s Historical Museum, will be open for special activities, such as a children’s scavenger hunt and House tours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with volunteers serving birthday cake and refreshments.

Seventy-six artists submit city logo designs
City hall took in submissions from 76 people for its open call to design a new city logo.
Some of the 76 turned in more than one design. Included in the mix was Jordis Small, a graphic designer whom the city contracted with last year to design the new logo. She submitted a “two-sail” version of her original single- sail design.
The city council in February opened up the project for more submissions, closing April 8. Artists were not required to live in Redondo Beach.
On May 7, councilmembers will each present their top choice and give staff further direction in choosing a final logo. ER
