Special school board meeting

The Hermosa Beach School Board will hold a special public meeting Monday to get input from community members regarding potential construction to address overcrowding in the district.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, and will be divided into two fifty-minute sessions. Each session will feature small group discussions; school board members and Superintendent Patricia Escalante will circulate among the groups to answer questions.

The first will be devoted to options for North School (417 25th St.)  including parking options and impact on traffic.

The second will concern a potential bond, and whether community members would prefer a bond focused just on North School, or on modernizing the district as a whole.

City council meeting delayed

The City Council will delay the meeting that would have been held Tuesday, Sept. 22 due to Yom Kippur. The Jewish holiday begins at sundown that Tuesday, and ends the next evening.

The meeting will instead be held Thursday, Sept. 24, and will begin at 7 p.m.

Board Short Mile

Open water swimmers can raise money for charity with an ocean swim beginning at the Hermosa Beach Pier Saturday morning.

The one-mile course will begin and end at the pier, looping around three buoys followed by a silent auction for a surfboard donated by ET Surf.

The swim will start at 10 a.m. Participants should arrive early to register. The race benefits the Challenged Athletes Foundation, which provides grants to athletes with physical disabilities. Participants will receive a pair of board shorts. ER
