Plant a tree
Volunteers can help brighten up Hermosa Beach by helping plant trees along the Green Belt this Saturday. Those wishing to participate should meet at the Clark Building at 861 Valley Drive at 8 a.m., and bring closed-toe shoes and water.
The event is organized by 100 Trees in HB, a project founded by Max Riley and Isabella Bacallao, students in the Hermosa Beach City School District. The goal is to introduce greater amounts of native trees in the area’s green spaces, and to educate residents about the benefits the trees can provide.
Schools debate
Candidates for the two open seats on the Hermosa Beach School Board will square off in a debate next Thursday. The debate, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Beach Cities and the Kiwanis Club of Hermosa Beach, will begin at 6 p.m. on Oct. 22 and will take place at Hermosa’s City Council Chambers.
Triathlon
Fitness enthusiasts should head to the beach Sunday morning for the 2015 Day at the Beach Triathlon.The event begins at 7 a.m. at the Hermosa Pier. Competitors will begin with a quarter-mile swim, followed by a 10-mile bike ride, and a three-mile run. ER
