American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Honor their brightest

Jaehoon Kim and Austin Pong from Peninsula High School won the Astronautics Award for their project "Model-based Solar Tracking System.” AIAA leaders Jeff Puschell and Ken Lui presented the awards.

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics held their annual Awards event on Thursday May 11th, at the Cambria Hotel LAX in El Segundo. Attended by industry pioneers and academics, several awards were presented to graduating high school students from Palos Verdes. Among the winners were Anish Anand from Peninsula High School on his drone project “Novel Control System for Autonomous Quadcopter Naviation.”

Justin Lui, graduating senior from Peninsula High School won the STEAM award and James Wertz Scholarship for his project ” A Novel Super-Resolution AI Engine & Multi-Stage Abnormality Detection Pipeline for Early Blindness Prevention.” Justin will start at Harvard Univertsity in the fall.

Anish Anand from Peninsula High School won the Aeronautics Award for his drone project.

PV Peninsula and PV High School students Brindha Srivatsav, Anthony Yoon, Deetya Srivastava, William Zhang, Kevin Yu and Will Ziolkowski were all recognized for their creative projects.

 

In the Middle School category, Audrey Chin and Rachel Lee won the Essay Contest writing on the theme “Choose one aspect of the James Webb Telescope, describe how it works and explain why it leads us to new discoveries and to answer important questions about the Universe.”
