Revenge Best Served Cold

Miraleste and Rolling Hills High alumni competed in the first annual Red Onion Cup last month at the Palos Verdes Golf Course. Miraleste grad Marcus Shen and Rolling Hills grad Roger Yang organized the golf tourney to renew the camaraderie and rivalry that existed prior to the schools’ closures. In the last match of the weekend, Miraleste captured the cup when Jack Alexander defeated Dough Gehr. “Doug and his Rolling Hills team beat us at Miraleste in 1985 to win the Hilltop Classic Basketball Tournament, and it took me 34 years to avenge that loss. So this one is for our 1986 Miraleste Marauder hoops team.

Red Onion Cup golfers Dan Prislin (MHS), Pete Fitzpatrick (MHS), Craig Johnson (MHS), Captain Marcus Shen (MHS), Jack Alexander (MHS), Doug Gehr (RHHS), Dan Trump (RHHS), Captain Roger Yang (RHHS), Scott Shean (RHHS), Scott Huizenga (RHHS), Bob Langley (MHS), and Greg Hollingsworth (RHHS).

Freedom 4U Volunteer

Leah Pratley, 18, is a Palos Verdes High senior and volunteer with Freedom4U. “My counselor suggested after our school watched a presentation on the dangers of drugs and alcohol for teens in high school,” Pratley said. “I am unsure of my career path but I hope to help others. Freedom4U has helped me grow by taking me out of my “PV bubble” and showing me how lucky I am and also how impactful volunteer work can be.
