Police are searching for the suspect(s) who allegedly broke into a Manhattan Beach bank last Friday and took off with $2,000 in coins, authorities said.
At 3:25 a.m., Manhattan Beach Police responded to a report of a burglary at Wells Fargo Bank, 1129 N. Sepulveda Blvd.
The bank’s private security arrived shortly after the building’s alarm had been tripped, and alerted the MBPD to the break-in.
The main entrance doors had been pried open, according to police.
“This is so rare. I’ve never heard of when we’ve had a bank door pried open,” said MBPD Officer Stephanie Martin. “It seems like a lot more work than going in during the day.”
Roughly $2,000 had been taken from several bank teller drawers in which coins are stored. Â The drawers had also been pried open, Martin said.
Crime scene investigators dusted for fingerprints and, as of Tuesday, police were waiting to find out if the suspect(s) were caught on the bank’s surveillance footage.
“It’s too early to tell right now,” Martin said. “Hopefully, there is a good surveillance tape.”
