Redondo Union hosts an impressive field of basketball teams when the 62nd annual Pacific Shores Tournament, along with the Mira Costa tournament, begins Monday.
Ten of the 16 teams competing at Redondo posted 20 or more wins last season. The field includes five 2012-13 CIF division champions and two state champions including Redondo (Division 2) and Pacific Hills (Division 5).
Second-year head coach Reggie Morris Jr. returns a strong nucleus from a Redondo team that went 28-8 and won CIF Division 2-A and State championships.
Key players will be point guard and CIF Division 2A Co-MVP Ian Fox, guard Leland Green, forward Jeremiah Headley and guard Cameron High.
In last year’s Pacific Shores Tournament, Redondo lost to Serra in the third-place game. The Sea Hawks open this year’s tournament with a 6:30 p.m. game against Morningside on Monday.
Other first-round games includes defending Division 3A champion St. John Bosco vs. Palos Verdes; Calabasas vs. Millikan; Compton vs. Narbonne; defending LA City champion Westchester vs. Peninsula; Long Beach Poly vs. defending 4A champion Pacific Hills and Campbell Hall vs. Lawndale.
The championship game is slated to tip off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Redondo’s main gym.

Mira Costa’s Pacific Shores Tournament has a more local flair and will run Monday through Saturday. The Mustangs finished third in last year’s tournament and are coming off a 20-11 season in which they reached the semifinals in Division 2AA and made an appearance in the State Division 2 playoffs.
Coach Jeff Amaral’s Mira Costa squad will be led by All-Bay League forward Justin Strings and will compete in Pool A. The Mustangs begin the tournament Monday against Gardena, and then take on St. Bernard Tuesday and North Torrance on Friday, Nov. 28 in 7:30 p.m. contests.
Competing in Pool B are West Torrance, Torrance, Carson and Culver City.
The championship game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
