Redondo Union girls dominate Bay League track and field championships

Senior Shelby Bassman was a three-time winner for Redondo Union High School, which turned in a strong performance at the Bay League track and field fiinals held at Mira Costa.

Bassman was league champion in the 100 (12.40) and 200 (25.64) and also ran on the Sea Hawk’s 400 relay team that won with a time of 48.74.

Redondo’s girls captured the 400, 800 and 1,600 with Anevay Hiehle (57.27), Cara Ulizio (2:16.78) and Kayla Ferron (5:02.89) taking league crowns. The Sea Hawks also won the 1,600 relay.

Kristen Hamlin won the 100 high hurdles for Redondo with a time of 15:42.

Turning in winning performances for Mira Costa were Lauren Hagedorn, who won the 3,200 with a time of 11:06.16 and Fa Leilua, who tossed the shot put 37 feet, 2 inches to win the event.

In boys competition, Mira Costa’s Sebastian Frank-Love won the 200 (22.82) and Raphael Lawson-Gayle captured the long jump (12-11.75) and triple jump (42-1) and also ran the anchor leg for the Mustang’s winning 400 relay team.

Mira Costa finished first in the 1,600 relay with a time of 3:24.17 and Sean Griffin captured the pole vault title with a mark of 15-0.

Redondo runners Dustin Herold (1:56.65) and Evan Malone-White (4:19.99) won the 800 and 1,600 races, respectively.
