
Palos Verdes boys and girls cross country teams seek their second league victories when Redondo Union hosts the second Bay League meet Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
In the first meet, the Sea Kings’ boys team edged Redondo on a tie-breaker and was led by individual champion Casey Celestin. Mira Costa’s Abby Hong won the girls race.
Mira Costa’s boys and girls team each won team championships at the South Bay Cup held at Colombia Park in Torrance. Hong won the girls race while Niko Pappas led the Mustang’s boys team with a third-place finish.
Palos Verdes boys team is ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division 3. Redondo is ranked No. 3 in Division 2.
The Lady Sea Kings remain in the top spot in Division 3 while in Division 2, Mira Costa is ranked No. 3 and Redondo No. 9.
Redondo is coming off two strong performances. Competing in the Sweepstakes Division at the Desert Twilight XC Festival in Gilbert, AZ, the Sea Hawk’s boys team placed 6th and the girls finished 9th.
Competing in Division 1 at the 35th Asics Clovis Invitational Cross Country Meet last weekend, Redondo’s girls team captured first place with 89 points, running away from Foothill (139) and Whittier (160).
Amber Gore won the race with a time of 18:29. Nicole Beaudoin finished third (18:32) and Taylor Beaudoin edged teammate Anevay Hiehle for 12th place with a mark of 19:30.
Redondo’s boys team scored 82 points, falling just short of champion El Toro’s 79 points. El Rancho finished a distant third with 169 points.
Dustin Herold placed second at 15:52, William Tait finished fourth at 15:56 and Carlos Suarez took fifth at 16:01.
