After the eight seniors on Mira Costa’s softball team are recognized in their final game of the regular season Thursday evening, the Mustangs will take the field against Redondo with the Bay League championship on the line.

The importance of the game is such that it will be played under the lights slated to start at 7 p.m. at Marine Avenue Park in Manhattan Beach.

While bragging rights are always on the line when the rivals meet, Mira Costa will look to avenge a 2-0 loss at Redondo on April 29 and earn a better position when the CIF Southern Section Division 3 brackets are announced on Monday.

Mira Costa (20-7, 8-1) is in a first-place tie with Redondo (18-7, 8-1) after the Sea Hawks lost their Senior Night game 4-1 to visiting Peninsula on Friday.

Mira Costa routed host Morningside 22-0 on Tuesday with Elizabeth Lewis leading the barrage with 4 RBI while going 3 for 4 with one walk and two runs scored.

Kasey Hutton went 4 for 4 scoring three runs and knocking in two. Dillan Boada, Emily Eudy and Brittany Were each went 3 for 3.

Werre is enjoying a stellar senior season, leading Mira Costa in batting average (.542), runs (34), triples (4) and home runs (4).

Hutton (.494, 25 RBI, 13 doubles) and Eudy (.438, 230 RBI, 9 doubles) provide protection for Werre in the batting order.

Boada is the ace of the Mustang pitching staff with a 13-5 record and 2.44 ERA but will face a formidable lineup in Redondo.

The Sea Hawks are led by southpaw ace Kat Ung in the circle and possess a potent offense with Breanna Miskimen, Allison Betty, Brigid Antonelli, KP Fraser, Haley Reed and Ung.

Redondo enters Thursday’s showdown after surviving a scare at Palos Verdes on Tuesday. Down to their final out and trailing 1-0 in the top of the seventh inning, the Sea Hawks scored six runs to pull out a 6-1 victory.

After Ung hit a two-run single and Fraser’s single drove in another run, Betty capped of the rally with a three-run home run.
