Hermosa Beach Surfer Walk of Fame

The Hermosa Beach Historical Society will host the Surfer Walk of Fame weekend kick-off party on Friday, April 22 at the Hermosa Beach Community Theater, 710 Pier Ave. Doors open at 5 p.m. Past and present inductees will be on hand. The event also includes a surf film by Brad Jacobson and the South Bay Surf Awards. This year’s honorees are Nick Christensen (Cultural Legend), Josette Lagardere (Champion), Charlie Quesnel (South Bay Legend) and John Teague (Pioneer). They will be inducted on April 23 on Pier Plaza at 11 a.m. Prior to the induction, the SBBC/Waterman’s surf contest will be held at the Hermosa pier. The Spyder Surf Fest will follow the induction ceremony at 1 p.m. on Pier Plaza with live music, raffles and giveaways. Leadership Hermosa will also exhibit over 80 painted surfboards by local artists from its Boards Across Hermosa. For more information, call the Community Resources Department at (310) 318-0280.

The Hermosa Beach Friends of the Library Bookstore will hold its monthly Saturday sale from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. Items on sale include books, DVDs, CDs and LPs, all priced at $1 or less. The bookstore is located on 11th Place behind the Hermosa Beach Community Center, west of Pacific Coast Highway and the Veterans Memorial and across the street from the Alano Club. Weekday hours are Mondays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking and access are available in the Community Center parking lot next to the tennis courts and skateboard park. Succulent show & sale 

The South Coast Cactus & Succulent Society’s annual Show & Sale is set for April 23-24, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Palos Verdes Art Center, 5504 Crestridge Road, Rancho Palos Verdes. Pacific Islander music

The concert is part of a larger multi-platform project that includes a documentary film and several full-length albums uniting indigenous musicians who share an ancient seafaring ancestry across the Pacific and Indian oceans. Class reunion

Members of Mira Costa High School class of 1961 are invited to a class reunion April 29-30. Covid prevented the class from holding a 60th reunion last year, so graduates are planning a “61st for ’61.” There will be three events: a casual, free gathering at 5:30 p.m. on April 29 at Ercole’s, 1101 Manhattan Ave., Manhattan Beach; a free tour of the high school on April 30, time to be determined; and dinner and a party at Bluewater Grill, 665 N. Succulents presentation

At the invitation of the Peninsula Garden Club and the Palos Verdes Art Center, Debra Baldwin will present a program, “Transforming Your Garden Into a Gallery of Gorgeous Succulents,” on May 1. Baldwin launched worldwide interest in succulents with her first book, “Designing with Succulents,” and has since written several other books on these plants. The event is at 12:30 p.m. at the Palos Verdes Art Center, 5504 Crestridge Road, Rancho Palos Verdes. Cacti, succulents presentation

The South Coast Cactus & Succulent Society will meet at 1 p.m. on May 8 in the Community Room at the Peninsula Center Library, 701 Silver Spur Road, Rolling Hills Estates. Gary Duke will present “Northern Argentina Cacti and Succulent in Habitat.” Duke will show photos of 31 cacti genera and 15 succulent genera that he spotted in his travels in northern Argentina in November 2021. “Sleeping Beauty”
