Benoit headlines El Camino College 75th Anniversary
Jazz pianist and composer David Benoit, a Hermosa Beach native and El Camino College Distinguished Alumnus, headlines the El Camino College 75th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Concert this Friday, June 3. Benoit will conduct his own composition,“Soul to Seoul, East Meets West: A Time for Hope.”
Featured ensembles and artists will include El Camino’s Symphony Orchestra, Chorale, Concert Choir, and Women’s Chorus, in addition to the Torrance Civic Chorale, and the Joanna Medawar Nachef Singers. Music selections are distinctly celebratory, featuring pieces from Beethoven to Sinatra. Dane Teter, El Camino’s former director of instrumental music, will return as a guest conductor for the first time since his retirement last year.
Alumni soloists will includes soprano Erin Wood, an applied music faculty member with a distinguished opera career; Lizbeth Sanchez Montenegro, an alto with a master’s degree in opera from CSU Northridge; tenor Christopher Craig, who transferred to the San Francisco Conservatory where he earned a bachelor’s degree; and baritone Anthony Moreno, an ECC faculty member who earned a doctorate in music from USC.

Summer Read-A-Palooza

RUHS pancake breakfast
The Redondo Union High School football program will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m.-noon at Sea Hawk Stadium. This year’s event will include a co-ed flag football tournament, with proceeds benefiting boys football, girls flag football and the RUHS cheer squad. Tickets are $10 per person and include eggs, sausage, pancakes and choice of milk or orange juice. No charge for children 3 and under. Summer reading kick-off
