Spotlight: Local musician Gavin Heaney, known as Latch Key Kid, will take the stage at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach on Sunday, July 24 as part of the city’s annual Concerts in the Park series. The series, presented by Chevron, features concerts every Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at the Polliwog Park amphitheater through Sept. 4. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnics. Admission is free. The park is located at 1601 Manhattan Beach Blvd., Manhattan Beach. Because street parking is limited, guests are also encouraged to carpool, take a taxi or use a ride-share service. For more information, including the series lineup, go to manhattanbeach.gov. Ongoing: Sandcastles contest Time is running out to enter the Roundhouse Aquarium’s second annual summer sand sculpture contest. The deadline to register and upload a photo is Sunday, July 24. Winners will be named on Aug. 17. The rules state that participants may build their sand sculpture on their own time at any location. They don’t even have to be near a beach.
