Earth Day beach clean up
Sea Sprite Hotel will host an Earth Day beach clean-up from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on the beach in front of the hotel, at 1016 The Strand in Hermosa Beach. Buckets and gloves will be provided. There will be live music, beach games, beverages and raffle prizes. Reserve a spot at eventbrite.com.
Earth Day celebration
Roundhouse Aquarium on the Manhattan Beach Pier will throw a Keep it Green, Keep it Clean Earth Day Celebration from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The aquarium has partnered with local community groups and school organizations to provide fun, interactive and hands-on activities that promote sustainable living. Earth Day at the White Point Nature Preserve
Help the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy with beautification projects that benefit the community and local wildlife. Remove invasive vegetation, plant native species, spread mulch and more. Family activities are planned, as well, including a guided garden walk, scavenger hunt, nature-based art project, native plant sale and raffle. The event is from 9-a.m.-noon at 1600 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro. Cars must enter from Western Avenue. The parking area and street parking are at end of the road. Fosters for dogs needed
The Little Red Dog, a non-profit dog rescue, is in desperate need of people willing to foster dogs that are on the euthanasia list. The charity covers all food, veterinarian care and expenses for the foster dogs. Foster parents provide a safe, indoor temporary home for the dogs to sleep. Fosters also walk the dogs in their care and help reinforce their training. To learn more about being a foster parent and to fill out an application, visit thelittlereddog.org/fostering.
Walkers needed
The South Bay will be represented at NAMI Walk, to be held on April 29 at the Los Angeles State Historic Park. (NAMI stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness.) The walk aims to raise awareness and funds to achieve the NAMI goals of fighting stigma and providing programs and services to families and persons with a mental illness at no cost. Spring musical
The Palos Verdes High School Drama Department is proud to present the smash Broadway hit, “Something Rotten!” Performances run April 14-15 and April 21-22 at 7 p.m., April 16 and April 23 at 2 p.m. and April 20 at 4 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Palos Verdes High School, 600 Cloyden Road in Palos Verdes Estates. High school reunion
An all-day Miraleste High School all-class reunion is set for July 29. There will be alumni games, photo booths, live music, campus tours and a homecoming dance at Miraleste Intermediate School, formerly the high school, in Rancho Palos Verdes. Hermosa Beach Surfers Walk of Fame Kick-off event
The kick-off is 5-9 p.m. at the Hermosa Beach Community Center, 710 Pier Ave. Meet past and present inductees. South Bay Surf Awards will be presented and a surf film screened. Presented by the South Bay Boardriders Club. Free admission.
New art exhibition
Join the Manhattan Beach Art Center and Gallery 208 in celebrating surf culture beyond the surface. Two concurrent exhibitions, “Swell” at the Manhattan Beach Art Center and “Hot Batch” at Gallery 208, feature artwork inspired by surfing. The exhibition opens at the Manhattan Beach Art Center (1560 Manhattan Beach Blvd.) from 5-7 p.m. and then at Gallery 208 (208 Manhattan Beach Blvd.) from 7-10 p.m. On display through July 2.

Film Festival
The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy will present the eighth annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour at 4 p.m. at Warner Grand Theatre, 6th St., San Pedro. Fourteen films in two hours. Topics range from kayaking and Alaskan dog sledding adventures to stories about saving wildlife large and small, from elephants to endangered migrating monarchs. Classical music
The Peninsula Symphony and David Cubek present “Austro-German Gems.” The concert opens with Fanny Mendelssohn’s Overture in C, continues with Mozart’s Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra and concludes with Schumann’s 4th Symphony. The 33rd annual Seahorse Classic Charity golf tournament will be held at Palos Verdes Golf Club. Cancer Support Community South Bay (CSC South Bay) is offering this free program created for people diagnosed with bladder cancer. It is led by Dr. Lawrence Flechner, a South Bay urologic surgeon. The materials will educate patients on the types and stages of bladder cancers, potential treatments and side effects, clinical trials, and the emotional concerns of a bladder cancer diagnosis. Driving tour
“The Art of the Road,” a driving tour of artistic and historic sites on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, will be held on May 6. Sponsored by The Circle of the Palos Verdes Art Center, the tour and finish line party is a fundraiser for the Art Center’s visual arts exhibition and education programs. Drivers and navigators in both classic and modern cars can participate in the tour and party for $350.
