SBSC Surf Awards

Win Money & Prizes! Submit videos for Best Ride, Barrel, Air, Grom, Wipeout, Female wave of Winter, and Short Film. The South Bay Surf Awards are open to all surfers, on any wave ridden in the South Bay between November 1 and March 31. Winners of each of the five categories will be awarded at the “Surfers Walk of Fame Kick-Off Party” event happening at the Hermosa Community Center in late April. Fun Night Out, First United Methodist Church

Joint First United Methodist Church in Redondo Beach for a Fun Night Out, on the theme, “Warming Hearts.” The theme of friendship and care is explored through games, crafts, and other activities for all ages. Sports luncheon

The South Bay Athletic Club luncheon speaker will be Chris Carlson, a former college basketball coach who is UCLA’s associate athletic director working with the Bruins men’s basketball. The SBAC meets at the H.T. Grill, 1701 S. Catalina Ave., Redondo Beach. 12 p.m. The weekly meetings are open to the public. Reservations are not necessary. The cost of lunch is $35.

Cancer Support Community South Bay free workshop led by Colleen Malinow, an oncology-certified nurse practitioner at UCLA. Learn the importance of sleep and practical strategies to support deeper, more restorative rest, including adjustments to daily routines, breathing and meditation practices, and supplement considerations. Philosophical Mysteries of Quantum Physics 

Part I (part 2 is Saturday, February 28). Bradley Bobbs has a long career researching laser and electro-optical physics in the L.A. area, and was Adjunct Professor of Physics at Moorpark College and California Lutheran University. Bradley’s lectures are full of cartoons, jokes, trivia, and historical and personal anecdotes, and are designed to be understandable by any adult, regardless of science or math background (or lack thereof), as well as by exceptionally inquisitive teens. 12:30 – 4 p.m. Redondo Beach Main Library, 303 N. Art Demo, PV Art Center

Join The Artists Studio for an afternoon of color and creativity with artist Joyce Welsh. Joyce will demonstrate watercolor batik. Mini Train Rides, Wilson Park

Every 3rd Saturday of the month enjoy a scenic loop through Wilson Park on a mini Train, offering kids a thrill and adults a dose of nostalgia. e-Waste Collection

Through Friday, February 27. Do you have old technology cluttering your office? The Mira Costa High School Digital Philanthropy Club is a student organization that recycles electronics responsibly and safely in partnership with EcoSpot Recycling, a CalRecycle-certified facility. All electronics’ data is securely destroyed in the recycling process.
