“Voice of the Rams”
Sam Lagana will speak during the South Bay Athletic Club luncheon at the H.T. Grill, 1701 S. Catalina Ave., Redondo Beach. The Rams stadium announcer, and Beach Volleyball Hall of Famer will discuss the recent wildfires, which he witnessed firsthand as a Pacific Palisades resident. The SBAC weekly meeting starts at noon. It is open to the public; reservations are not necessary. Cost of lunch is $30.

The Role of Genetics in Cancer – In Person and via Zoom

Cancer Support Community South Bay offers a free workshop led by Karen Lappen, a certified and licensed genetic counselor at the Memorial Care Todd Cancer Institute at Long Beach Medical Center. Participants will learn how genes play a role in cancer, the purpose and utility of genetic testing, and when to consult with a care team. Fun Friday, Madrona Marsh Preserve

Friday Fun takes place every Friday from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. for children ages 3 to 6 and their parents or guardians. This hands-on program includes storytime, science, art, and a tour of the Madrona Marsh Preserve. The first hour is spent inside the Nature Center, while the second hour is dedicated to exploring the Preserve. Some weeks may feature additional activities like potting or other interactive experiences. The program emphasizes respect for all living things and encourages environmental stewardship. The Cabrillo Beach Cleanup, hosted by the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, offers a wonderful opportunity for individuals and groups to make a positive impact on the environment by helping to clear the shore of marine debris. This community-driven event takes place on the first Saturday of each month from 9 – 10:30 a.m. Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, 3720 Stephen M. White Dr., San Pedro. Volunteers will meet at the steps in front of the auditorium before heading out to the beach.

Edith Know Competition

The Peninsula Symphony Association’s Edith Knox Competition is free and starts at its new time of 1:30 p.m. at Redondo Union High School Auditorium, 631 Vincent St., Redondo Beach. Bug Expedition Class

Calling all junior entomologists to discover and learn about the bugs in the garden. Create your own identification guide that you can use at South Coast Botanic Garden and even in your own backyard. Each child will use a magnifying glass, notebook, pencil, and crayons to record their findings. All supplies needed will be provided. Expedition will take place in rain or shine. The South Bay Cities Council of Governments is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a ‘90s rewind photo contest. They are calling for creative and artistic shots of the South Bay taken in the 1990s or recent photos that capture memories or the spirit of the era. Entries must be received by 5 p.m., Friday March 7 and the winning image will be announced and displayed at the General Assembly on Thursday, March 27.
