“Reclaim your Water: Natasha Smith,” a film about a black surfer, and skater will be screened at Lunafest, the annual film festival hosted by Soroptimist International Manhattan Beach. This year’s Lunafest is March 5 from 2-5 p.m. at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd., Redondo Beach. A virtual, at home option is available. Spotlight: Public safety open house

The Redondo Beach Police Department will present a public safety open house on Sunday, March 5, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Redondo Beach Civic Center, located at City Hall, 415 Diamond St. There will be music, demonstrations from the K-9 unit, S.W.A.T. and the Redondo Beach Fire Department, motorcycles, fire trucks and an armored truck, food trucks, fun for kids, city services, shaved ice and more.

Pacific brim, at Torrance Art

The Torrance Art Museum has a new exhibit: “Bridging the Pacific-LA Art of the Japanese Diaspora.” This year marks the 50th anniversary of the sister city program between Kashiwa, Japan and Torrance. To celebrate this milestone, the Torrance Art Museum is presenting an exhibition of the artistic talents of the Japanese American community based in Southern California. The exhibit runs through Saturday, March 4 and is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturday. Admission is free. For more information, go to torranceartmuseum.com.

Meditation Techniques

Cancer Support Community South Bay is offering the first in a three-part series of workshops led by meditation facilitator Christine Campisi. Participants will learn techniques in mindful meditation to relax the body, still an active mind and perhaps gain insight into thoughts. Parts two and three of the series will take place on March 16 and March 30. Film festival

The 20th annual LA Harbor International Film Festival is Friday, March 3-Sunday, March 5 at Warner Grand Theatre, 478 W. 6th St., San Pedro. Free concert

In celebration of Women’s History Month, there will be a free concert, Women of the West, from 3-5 p.m. at the El Segundo Performing Arts Center in El Segundo High School, 640 Main St. Award-winning Los Angeles singer-songwriter Manda Mosher and Americana Blackbird Record artist Deb Morrison have teamed up to produce an Americana music concert featuring an all-female fronted line-up. Author talk

Join the Palos Verdes Library District for an evening with author David Calloway, who will be discussing his book, “If Someday Comes: A Slave’s Story of Freedom,” about his great-grandfather’s experiences in the Civil War. Calloway will also discuss his family history in east Tennessee and the research that led him to write the book. A short Q&A will follow. Copies of Calloway’s book will be for sale. The South Bay Bird Society will hold a hybrid in-person/Zoom meeting at 7 p.m. at the Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Club. The meeting will feature local birder and adventurer Bob Shanman from the Redondo Beach Wild Bird Unlimited store. He will share photos of his exciting safari adventures in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe. The Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Club is located at 2515 Valley Drive. Food and Mood Sharing Circle

Cancer Support Community South Bay (CSC South Bay) is offering the first in a three-part series of workshops during which participants take part in discussions about food, mood and stress coping mechanisms. The workshop will provide a space to learn, exchange ideas and connect. Healthy snacks will be available and recipe exchange is encouraged. Parts two and three of the series will take place on March 14 and March 21. The first workshop is 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. March 7 at 2601 Airport Drive, Suite 100, Torrance. Each workshop will have a different topic for discussion. Free trade event

Ten Thousand Villages will host a Fair Trade Rug Event at three South Bay locations. The event will take place March 10-12 at Crafted in San Pedro (at the Port of Los Angeles, 112 E. 22nd St., No. 173), March 17-19 at American Martyrs Church (1431 Deegan Place, Manhattan Beach) and March 23-April 1 at Ten Thousand Villages’ Redondo Beach store (in the Riviera Village at 1907 S Catalina Ave.) The event will feature over 300 hand-knotted rugs, from intricate florals to hand-spun wool natural dye tribals, in sizes from 2’x3’ to 10’x14’.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Hermosa Beach is set for March 11. The parade is from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., followed by music at Pier Plaza from 1-3 p.m. Pier Avenue and Hermosa Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic for the occasion. For more information, go to hbchamber.net/paradeER
