Spotlight: The Pastel Society of Southern California’s 13th annual Gallery Exhibition showcasing members’ artworks opened April 27 and continues through May 22 at Promenade on the Peninsula, 550 Deep Valley Drive, Suite 117, Rolling Hills Estates. The show features original paintings by nationally recognized pastel artists, as well as local society members. Seventy five artworks, including landscapes, seascapes, still life, animals and portraits, are on display. Most is available for purchase. The PSSC gallery is on the lower level of the Promenade, directly below The Regal theater, in the space previously occupied by The Loft. Free parking is available in the mall parking structure. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. The public is invited to attend the gala reception on Saturday, April 30, 1-4 p.m. at the gallery. “Beauty and the Beast”

Multiple confirmed COVID-19 cases among the cast, crew, and production team in the Mira Costa Drama/Tech Department have resulted in the cancellation of several upcoming Beauty and the Beast performances. The Thursday and Friday (April 28 and 29) shows have been cancelled, as well as a special Wednesday (April 27) performance for students.
After a three-year absence from live musical theater, the Mira Costa High School Drama/Tech Department is returning to the stage with the musical, “Beauty and the Beast.” Showtimes are April 28 at 6:30 p.m., April 29 and 30 at 7:30 p.m. and April 30 at 2 p.m. at the Mira Costa High School Auditorium, 1401 Artesia Blvd., Manhattan Beach. Tickets are on sale at miracostadramaboosters.org.

Class reunion

Rose show

The South Coast Rose Society will hold its annual Exhibition of Roses from 10-4 p.m. in the atrium of the Palos Verdes Art Center, 5504 Crestridge Road, Rancho Palos Verdes. Admission is free. The public is welcome to show roses alongside society members. Roses may be shown as singles, groups of two or three or in bouquets. For those bringing roses, set-up starts at 9 a.m. All visitors must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Succulents presentation

At the invitation of the Peninsula Garden Club and the Palos Verdes Art Center, Debra Baldwin will present a program, “Transforming Your Garden Into a Gallery of Gorgeous Succulents,” at 12:30 p.m. Baldwin launched worldwide interest in succulents with her first book, “Designing with Succulents,” and has since written several other books on these plants. The event is at the Palos Verdes Art Center, 5504 Crestridge Road, Rancho Palos Verdes. “Sleeping Beauty”
