Event Spotlight

5K Run/Walk

The mental health campaign “You Are Enough” will present the first annual “You Are Enough” 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 8. The event will start at 9 a.m. at Schumacher Plaza in Hermosa Beach. Runners and walkers will proceed to the Manhattan Beach Pier, before returning to the Plaza.  $40. All proceeds will go toward campaign billboards in the South Bay. “You Are Enough” is an initiative of Giving Purpose, a non-profit dedicated to helping people feel worthy. Fiber art exhibit

An exhibit of contemporary fiber art in Southern California is on display at the Palos Verdes Art Center through April 15. The gallery, located at 5504 Crestridge Road in Rancho Palos Verdes, is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays. Closed Sundays. Walkers needed

The South Bay will be represented at NAMI Walk, to be held on April 29 at the Los Angeles State Historic Park. (NAMI stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness.) The walk aims to raise awareness and funds to achieve the NAMI goals of fighting stigma and providing programs and services to families and persons with a mental illness at no cost. Spring musical

The Palos Verdes High School Drama Department is proud to present the smash Broadway hit, “Something Rotten!” Performances run April 14-15 and April 21-22 at 7 p.m., April 16 and April 23 at 2 p.m. and April 20 at 4 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Palos Verdes High School, 600 Cloyden Road in Palos Verdes Estates. Family Poetry Workshop

April is National Poetry Month. Author April Halprin Wayland will lead a family poetry workshop from 4-5 p.m. in the Storytime Room at the Main Redondo Beach Library, 303 N. Pacific Coast Highway. Tickets will be handed out at the Children’s Reference desk at 3:45 p.m. Space is limited.

Hermosa Beach Rotary hosts a Certified Farmers Market every Friday, noon to 4 p.m., at 1035 Valley Drive.

Living art exhibit

The Living Art Experience will be held Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8 at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. Twelve recreations of twelve art masterpieces using live models will be presented. The featured artwork includes Leonardo DaVinci’s “Last Supper” and Michelangelo’s “Pietà.” The program will be narrated with an original script and presented with a musical score performed by an orchestra and vocal ensemble. VW car show

Easter Eggstravaganza

Easer Sunrise Mass

Our Lady of Guadalupe will hold its annual Easter Sunrise Mass at 6 a.m. on the beach south of Hermosa Beach Pier, near the shoreline. Bring beach chairs or blankets.

Easter services at Journey of Faith

Community members are invited to celebrate Easter at Journey of Faith. In Manhattan Beach, services will be held at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. at 1243 Artesia Blvd. and in Torrance, at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at 2917 Lomita Blvd. Easter is April 9.

Film screening

El Camino College will screen “Return to Sweden” as part of its Discovery Film Series at 3 p.m. in Marsee Auditorium. General admission, $16. Seniors, $14. “Return to Sweden” tells the story of an American of Swedish descent, Dale Johnson, who journeyed to Sweden hoping to see the land of his ancestors, but found much more. El Camino College is located at 16007 Crenshaw Blvd., Torrance.

Community garage sale

The city of Hermosa Beach has announced the return of the Community Garage Sale on April 15. The city will accept registrations beginning April 1 and city staff will help residents publicize their garage sales through a crowd-sourced map and advertisements on social media and Craigslist. Residents can subscribe to notifications on the city website to receive an update when the Community Garage Sale registration begins. “The Art of the Road,” a driving tour of artistic and historic sites on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, will be held on May 6.
