4th of July 5K 

The 4th of July 5K and Firecracker Dash in Redondo Beach returns for a 30th year on Tuesday, July 4. Participants will receive an event T-shirt. There will be chip timing, age division awards and cash prizes to the top three overall male and female runners in the 5K run. All kids dash finishers receive medals. There’s also a costume contest in the Coffee Cartel parking lot at 7:15 a.m. The 5K begins at 8 a.m. on Catalina Avenue near Palos Verdes Boulevard. The times for the kids dash are 9:30 a.m. (ages 8-9), 9:40 a.m. (ages 6-7) and 9:45 a.m. (ages 4-5). To register online and for more information, go to villagerunner.com/4th-of-july-5.

Sunsational Sandcastles

The Roundhouse Aquarium on the Manhattan Beach Pier is accepting entries for its third annual summer sand sculpture contest to Aug. 1. Girls volleyball camp

Registration is open for Mini-Mustang Girls Volleyball Camp. The camp is for girls in grades 3-8 and will be held July 17-19, 8-11 a.m. at Mira Costa High School, 1401 Artesia Blvd., Manhattan Beach. Instruction and games with Mira Costa volleyball coaches and the 2022-23 volleyball team provided. Girls will be grouped according to age and skill. All campers receive a t-shirt and light snacks. 50 Years of Iron Man

The Hermosa Beach Museum is recognizing 50 Years of Iron Man as the subject of its rotating summer exhibit. The museum will unveil the exhibit at a reception, 5-9 p.m. A special edition coffee table book by local photographer Chris Miller and special edition Iron Man Anniversary prints by local artist Daniel Inez will be for sale. George F Canyon Guided Family Nature Preserve Walk

10:30 a.m., with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. Attendees will be guided by a trained naturalist to discover a unique variety of wildlife in their canyon habitat. RPV 4th of July celebration

City of Torrance 4th of July fireworks show 

9 p.m. at the Torrance Civic Center. Viewing areas will be available on a first come, first served basis in the west parking lot of the L.A. County Courthouse (825 Maple Ave.) and the LA Galaxy Sports Center (555 Maple Ave.). The LA Galaxy Sports Center will open at 7 p.m. and close about 30 minutes after the show. Free fitness

Beach Cities Health District and the cities of Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach will kick off its 8-week Summer Free Fitness series on July 10.  The public workouts will be held each Monday from 6:30-7:30 p.m., starting with Mindful Yoga on the Beach just south of the Manhattan Beach Pier July 10-July 31, followed by four weeks of Zumba in the Park Aug. 7-28 at Julia Field at Alta Vista Park in Redondo Beach. Information: bchd.org/freefitness ER
