Spotlight:

Musician Kenny Metcalf will bring the music of Elton John to Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach on Sunday, July 30. The show is part of the annual Concerts in the Park series at Polliwog Park. The series features concerts every Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. through Sept. 5. Admission is free. Concert-goers are welcome to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnics. Polliwog Park is located at 1601 Manhattan Beach Blvd. Information: ManhattanBeach.gov.

HB Triathlon

Registration is open for the 2023 Tower 26 Hermosa Beach Triathlon, which will take place on Aug. 13. The entry-level event is open to triathletes of all skill levels. To register and for more information, go to hermosabeachtri.com.

New family support group

A new in-person family support group meets at 5:30 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month at the allcove Youth Wellness Center at the Beach Cities Health District, 514 N. Prospect Ave, Redondo Beach. The support group focuses on families with youth or young adults ages 12 to 25 with mental health conditions. To register, call (310) 374-5706.

Sunsational Sandcastles

The Roundhouse Aquarium on the Manhattan Beach Pier is accepting entries for its third annual summer sand sculpture contest to Aug. 1. Build a sand sculpture on your own time at any location. Submit a photo of your entry online. Entry fee: $30. Information: roundhouseaquarium.org/sandcastle.

New art exhibit

Fifteen artists have produced an exhibition of paintings reflecting their unique views and experiences of life around the Palos Verdes Peninsula and surrounding areas. The exhibit is on display Aug. 1 to Sept. 25 at the Malaga Cove Library gallery exhibit area, open during regular library hours. 2400 Vía Campesina, Palos Verdes Estates. Gift card drive

Sunset Series

6th Annual Community Exhibition

Hills Are Alive 5k/10k

The race returns for a 42nd year on Aug. 5. Runners and walkers will meet at the historic Ernie Howlett Park, 25851 Hawthorne Blvd., Rolling Hills Estates. 8 a.m. start time. HB Summer Sidewalk Sale & Lemonade Day

In addition to sidewalk sales, the event includes a pop-up market from ShopFest Collective on the Upper Pier sidewalk, live music at Java Man and Lemonade Day, in which children set up on the sidewalk and sell lemonade while competing for a prize. It all takes place Aug. 5 and Aug. 6, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

First aid, CPR/AED training

The Manhattan Beach Community Emergency Response Team (MBCERT) is offering free adult and pediatric first aid, CPR/AED training with a two-year certificate. Dates: Aug. 5, Oct. 14 and Dec. 2.
