Symphonic soundtracks
Music lovers can enjoy an evening of popular movie tunes when conductor Gary Berkson leads the Peninsula Symphony in a concert at the Redondo Union High School Auditorium, 631 Vincent St., at 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 31. Doors open at 4 p.m. Admission and parking are free. The symphony will be playing music from “The Avengers,” “Lawrence of Arabia,” “Jurassic Park,” “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” “Witness,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Star Wars,” “The Empire Strikes Back,” “Gone With the Wind,” “Ghostbusters” and “Thor.” Berkson will intersperse the musical selections with his colorful, engaging talks. Adopt a Child for a Day
The P.S. I Love You Foundation and Fablectics will give 300 at-risk children a day at the beach on Sept. 10. This will mark the 21st annual Adopt a Child for a Day celebration, which will be held in Manhattan Beach. Corporate sponsors, in-kind donors and mentors are needed. Summer concerts at Manhattan Village
Summer Concerts have returned to Manhattan Village, 3200 N Sepulveda Blvd., Manhattan Beach. There’s live music 6-8 p.m. every Thursday in The Plaza through Aug. 25. Summer concerts at The Point
The Point in El Segundo welcomes visitors to the Sounds of Summer, a family-friendly music series that takes place from 6–8 p.m. every Wednesday through Sept. 28. STEM event
The 2022 Global Summit Demonstration Day will take place at 9 a.m.-noon at Mira Costa High School’s Waller Football Stadium. It is open to families and students of all ages as well as the broader community, and should be especially attractive to families with children interested in STEM. Global Summit is the culmination of more than two months of hard work for four teams of Northrop Grumman college interns and Mira Costa students. Overseen by company mentors, the teams spent hours designing, building, flying and driving autonomous vehicles created with the goal of supporting a simulated disaster relief operation. The high school address is 1401 Artesia Blvd., Manhattan Beach. Admission is free.
Water recycling plant tour
Community members are welcome to join the South Bay Boardriders Club for a private tour of the Edward C. Little Water Recycling Plant behind the new Top Golf in El Segundo.
