Summer concerts at Polliwog Park

The band So Rad will bring the music of the 90s to Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach on Sunday, July 9 as part of the city’s annual Concerts in the Park series. Presented by Chevron, the series features concerts every Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Polliwog Park amphitheater through Sept. 5. Admission is free. Concert-goers are welcome to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnics. Polliwog Park is located at 1601 Manhattan Beach Blvd. Because street parking is limited, guests are encouraged to carpool, take a taxi or use a ride-share service. Sunsational Sandcastles

The Roundhouse Aquarium on the Manhattan Beach Pier is accepting entries for its third annual summer sand sculpture contest until Aug. 1. Build a sand sculpture on your own time at any location. Submit a photo of your entry online. Entry fee: $30. Information: roundhouseaquarium.org/sandcastle.

Girls volleyball camp

Registration is open for Mini-Mustang Girls Volleyball Camp. The camp is for girls in grades 3-8 and will be held July 17-19, 8 to 11 a.m. at Mira Costa High School, 1401 Artesia Blvd., Manhattan Beach. Instruction and games with Mira Costa volleyball coaches and the 2022-23 volleyball team provided. Girls will be grouped according to age and skill. All campers receive a t-shirt and light snacks. Cost is $270. Proceeds benefit Mira Costa Girls Volleyball. Register by July 14 at mbxfoundation.org/booster-clubs/volleyball-girls.

Free concerts at the pier

Author Storytime with Ashley Mills Monaghan

Enjoy some fun songs and a reading of Monaghan’s book, “A Little Goes a Long Way.” 3:30 to 4 p.m. at the Main Library in Redondo Beach, 303 N. Pacific Coast Highway, Redondo Beach. Tickets will be handed out at the children’s reference desk at 3:15 p.m. Tickets required.

Jeralyn Glass Sound Bowl Celebration

Cancer Support Community South Bay (CSC South Bay) is offering this free program led by Jeralyn Glass, a leader in the field of sound healing. The workshop is a celebration of the release of Glass’s Crystal Sound Healing Oracle Deck. The Deck focuses on crystal alchemy singing bowls and helps the user integrate healing sound vibration into their daily life. Presenter for July: Kelly Griffin, “Aloe Hybrids.” Known for his hybridizing, Griffin is responsible for over 100 succulent hybrids now in the trade, including aloes, agaves and echeverias. In-Person Social Hour

The Beach Cities Health District will host an in-person social hour with Beach Cities Health District Care Manager Charlotte Barnett from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Sunset Room at the Manhattan Beach Joslyn Center, 1601 N. Valley Drive. Come on by if you have a question regarding community resources, want to learn more about BCHD, want to share ways you are keeping busy or are looking for advice on ways to keep busy. These social hours are for all, a place to connect and feel heard.  

Free fitness

Beach Cities Health District and the cities of Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach will kick off its 8-week Summer Free Fitness series on July 10.  The public workouts will be held each Monday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., starting with Mindful Yoga on the Beach just south of the Manhattan Beach Pier July 10-July 31, followed by four weeks of Zumba in the Park Aug. 7-28 at Julia Field at Alta Vista Park in Redondo Beach. Information: bchd.org/freefitness.

Lunch and Learn: Meditation Techniques

Coin club meeting
