Olympus Board Shop owner Jeremy Godokis congratulates Gypsy Paddler Jenny Ramos on her third place finish in the Hennessey Return to the Pier Paddleboard Race on Memorial Day.
In a rare reversal of the prevailing trend, prone paddlers outnumbered stand-up paddlers at the Riviera Mexican Grill R-10 Paddleboard Race on Saturday June 1. Prone paddler and 2011 Catalina Classic winner Brad Thompson was first overall with a time of 1:20. Approximately 40 prone paddlers and a dozen stand-up paddlers competed in the seven-mile race, which started and ended at Torrance Beach after competitors rounded the R-10 buoy off of Palos Verdes. Stand-up paddleboard veteran Dialy Ndiaye finished first overall in the Hennessey Return to the Pier Paddleboard race on Memorial Day. The 3.5 mile in-and-out course went from the end of the Hermosa Beach pier to the end of the Manhattan Beach pier, and back.

Sixteen, four-person, handicapped teams competed in the annual Dig 4 Jimmy Surf and Turf fundraiser Sunday, April 28 at the Manhattan Beach pier. The event benefits Dig 4 Kids, founded by volleyball Olympian Eric Fonoimoana and the Jimmy Miller Foundation. Fonoimoana and Miller were volleyball teammates at MiraCostaHigh School.
